The PTC Advisory Panel

The PTC is delighted to thank the following publishing professionals, who have agreed to serve on the PTC Advisory Panel. The panel was inaugurated at the end of April 2016 and the members are drawn from all sectors and a variety of roles. The purpose of the panel is to ensure that the PTC is truly in touch with the needs of the publishing industry.
Membership is voluntary and unpaid; each member has agreed to contribute across five areas:

  • to scan professional horizons and report to the PTC about matters important to the industry that the PTC should take on board
  • to advise on areas of publishing skills that are not covered in existing training courses
  • to comment on new course proposals
  • to comment on existing courses and advise on areas of improvement
  • to recommend colleagues or contacts as tutors or guest speakers for courses at the PTC.

The PTC Board of Trustees

At the Publishing Training Centre, we are lucky to be able to draw on the experience of a dedicated board of trustees, who have between them held some of the most senior positions in UK publishing:

Lis Tribe (Chair)

Lis Tribe is Managing Director of the Hodder Education Schools Division, one of the largest secondary schools publishers in the country. She joined Hodder from Routledge in 1993 as commissioning editor for vocational subjects, and has worked in a variety of publishing roles since then. At a time when the pace of change in educational publishing is really very rapid, Lis firmly believes that training is of great value to companies in supporting and developing their staff in their existing as well as future roles.

Jonathan Glasspool

Jonathan Glasspool is Managing Director of Bloomsbury Academic and Professional and Deputy Managing Director of A & C Black Ltd. He was formerly Product Director in Bloomsbury's Electronic Media Division. Previous jobs include Publisher with Reed Elsevier in Singapore, Melbourne and Oxford. Jonathan was also Head of Publishing at the Institute of Management, where he worked with Hodder Headline, Pearson and Butterworth-Heinemann. He started his career at Cambridge University Press.

Edward Milford

Edward Milford is currently Development Director for the IPG and has had a successful and distinguished career in publishing over the last 30 years.

Robin Hunt

Robin Hunt is Publishing Director at Scholastic Education, having previously worked at Nelson Thornes from 1997 – 2004. He is a member of the PA’s Educational Publishers Council and is currently serving as Vice Chair.

Emma House

Emma House is the Director for Publisher Relations for the Publishers Association, she heads up the international anti-piracy campaigns on behalf of PA members, as well as monitors and lobbies for secure market conditions in key export territories.

Claire Thomas

Claire Thomas is Director of Organisational Development and Talent for Penguin Random House, the world’s leading trade publisher.

Claire’s role is to help keep the company moving forward: through the culture and employee experiences Penguin Random House cultivates and the talent they attract, hire and grow. She has worked in publishing for over twenty years.

Owen Meredith

Owen Meredith is Managing Director/Director of External Affairs at the PPA (Professional Publishers’ Association).
